U.S. ANTI-ONLINE GAMBLING POLITICIANS HAVE A NEW PLAN
09th July, 2015 at 08:09:27
Latest tactic may be an attempt to secure a moratorium on further individual state legalisation drives whilst the pastime is 'studied.'
In an effort to restrict individual states over and above New Jersey, Delaware and Nevada from legalising online gambling, US politicians seeking a federal ban on the pastime may be developing a plan to impose a moratorium on further legalisation drives, using the excuse that a Congressional study of the phenomenon is required.
It is known that at least ten states are considering online wagering in one form or another, making it increasingly difficult for the anti-online gambling faction to secure support at state level for a blanket federal online gambling ban.
News of the plot was broken by the usually well-informed industry researcher and writer Chris Krafcik, who comments that it is seen as a more viable alternative to the Sheldon Adelson-inspired Restoration of America's Wire Act, currently in the House and Senate at committee level (see previous reports).
Apparently the moratorium tactic is viewed as having more open-ended potential, given strenuous complaints from many influential sources that the RAWA infringes on states' rights, and suggestions that it is an anti-competitive attempt by bricks and mortar tycoon Adelson, a major Republican Party donor.
