ADELSON ANTI- ONLINE GAMBLING CAMPAIGN STARTS MAILER INITIATIVE IN PENNSYLVANIA
22nd May, 2015 at 07:51:14
Is the Coalition to Stop Internet Gambling getting worried about progress in Pennsylvania?
Poker Players Alliance director Rich Muny has flagged a deeply biased mailer campaign by Sheldon Adelson's Coalition to Stop Internet Gambling that has targeted Pennsylvania residents.
Muny published samples of the highly partisan mailers, which rely on the questionable results of the discredited Harper telephone auto-poll recently commissioned by the Coalition (see previous reports) purporting to show that most Pennsylvanians are against legalised online gambling, and would not support lawmakers who voted for it.
The mostly graphics-based mailers also push one of the talking points of Coalition speakers - the alleged ease with which children can gamble on the internet, which takes no cognisance of the advanced measures deployed by operators against such an eventuality.
Industry observers commenting on the bulk mail say it may be a sign that the Coalition is seriously concerned about the professional and impartial manner in which the state of Pennsylvania is assessing the possibilities for legalised online gambling and progressing intrastate measures to effect a safe and regulated industry.
They also point to a new and more reliable poll published this week in which 58% of respondents support legalisation vs. 26% who are against it (see previous report).
Flagging the mailer initiative this week, Muny tweeted:
"Sheldon Adelson bulk mails propaganda obtained from biased PA polling, commissioned by his own anti-#poker group."
