Reiterates intention to send officials to China for training in anti-online gambling enforcement.

The Malaysian Home Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, reiterated this week the government's intention to send its officials to China for training in anti-online gambling techniques (see previous reports).

The minister recently visited his counterpart in China to cement relationships with the goal of better stamping out criminal activity. Malaysia and China have developed a working group to provide structured security cooperation among law enforcement agencies in areas such as counter terrorism, cybercrime - including online gambling, human trafficking and migrant smuggling activities.

China is also assisting Malaysia in its search for answers on MH370, the Malaysian Airlines commercial flight that went missing earlier this year with 239 souls aboard, many of them Chinese nationals, and the two countries have held discussions on visa regulations.

The Minister said the training scheme would commence before the end of 2014, adding:

China has committed to invite a bigger number of our officials to be trained in various fields, especially anti-terrorism, online gambling, prostitution, border securities and drug abuse.

Our law enforcement officers will be sent in batches to the republic as we want to see how they have significantly reduced such activities in China, he said, noting Chinese successes in crippling online gambling rings, despite the servers being outside China.
