Severe restrictions proposed for advertising and the promotion of gambling

A new bill to regulate advertising and the promotion of gaming has been introduced to Argentina's Lower House by the Gen Party's national deputy Omar Ducl ó s.

The proposal aims at restricting gaming advertising to prevent and control gambling addiction.

It gives the Federal Authority of Audiovisual and Communication Services (AFSCA) :

- the authority to monitor and ensure compliance of any new regulations.

- the prohibition of advertising and promotion across all media platforms but those within authorised gambling centres themselves.

- clear warnings on the dangers of excessive gambling on advertising and promotion within those gambling centres.

Ducl ó s told the Lower House that the adoption of concrete measures to raise awareness when it comes to the negative effects of compulsive gambling and problem gambling was critical.

In our country there are many advertisements for lotteries, casinos, racetracks and bingo on television, radio, in print and electronic media as well as signage on public roads, stadiums and malls, which target a large number of potential consumers, and they provide a picture of gaming as a leisure and entertainment activity associated with happiness and good fortune," said Ducl ó s.
