Views sought on appropriate levels and nature of social responsibility protections by operators.
The UK Gambling Commission
has launched a new online gambling consultation seeking opinions from the public and the industry on the levels and nature of social responsibility protections that internet and mobile gambling operators should provide.
Given the often controversial high profile of gambling in recent times as a result of the FOBT furore and the imminent change to a point-of-consumption tax and regulatory regime, the consultation comes at an important stage in the UK industry's development.
The Commission notes that advances in technology and the preferences of gamblers present new ways to tackle and prevent problem gambling
, and underline the vital role that operators play in ensuring safe and fair activity that respects societal norms.
Points raised include the viability of a national self-exclusion scheme and mandatory thirs party testing for operators.
The consultation is scheduled to close at the end of October.
