Internet censorship element in ban triggers an outcry

The Communications Regulatory Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina's (RAK) ban on internet gambling has been reversed following a public outcry triggered by the internet censorship elements of the mid-January attempted block on foreign online gambling websites.

The publication OWPsee reports that RAK gave Internet Service Providers 30 days to implement the ban or face fines ranging from 1,000 to 50,000 BAM (app. Euro 500 to 25,000). It comments that laws on the subject are ambiguous and open to interpretation.

The inalienable right to freedom of information can't be threatened in any way or fashon for reasons to protect financial, state or private interests, the BiH Pirate Party said in its 'net neutrality' reaction to the ban.
