London's new Hippodrome Casino
deals with Microgaming and Pokerstars (see previous reports) were fleshed out with more detail in a statement from the casino Tuesday.
The deals will create an online presence for the Hippodrome and enhance the new casino's live poker room offering, the statement disclosed.
PokerStars, the worlds' largest online poker site, will refurbish and re-brand the poker deck at the Hippodrome Casino to create the UK's first PokerStars' poker room.
In 2013, the Hippodrome will become home to a range of new PokerStars' sponsored tournaments and special events which the site will promote to its customer base of 50 million registered players. PokerStars has also taken a minority stakeholding in the Hippodrome Casino as part of the deal.
Microgaming will build www.hippodromecasino.com, which will be operated by Betway
Group and introduce an unrivalled suite of games and mobile gaming applications. Online poker on the site will be provided by Pokerstars.
Simon Thomas, founder and chairman of the Hippodrome Casino, said: We are delighted to welcome PokerStars and Microgaming into the Hippodrome Casino family. They bring unrivalled online profile and expertise that will allow us to harness the true potential of a bricks-and-mortar venue and its online presence.
Guy Templer, Group Strategy Director for PokerStars, said his company's expertise and success in both online and live poker makes partnering with Hippodrome a natural.
The Hippodrome has dramatically raised the quality bar for the UK casino industry, he said.
Together we will give poker players the same great poker experience, live 24/7 in the heart of London that they get from PokerStars online. We are looking forward to unveiling some great new live events for the UK poker market in 2013.EDITOR'S OBSERVATION
Microgaming seems an odd choice for The Hippodrome's online casino product. Although it's a lot more versatile than the previous Boss Media offering, if you operate a land-based casino would it not make sense to offer the same games to your customers online?
The table games of course are the same pretty much wherever you go but the slot machines from IGT, Novo, Aristocrat and WMS are not available on Microgaming's platform.
This means slots players at Hippodrome are better served by their competitors, most notably Gala
or better still, Grosvenor Casino
who not only have similar online and offline games but also have a land-based casino between Leicester Square & Piccadilly, within a 2 minute walk of Hippodrome!
