August numbers show better growth, albeit at a slower rate than the heydays

The latest numbers from the Macau regulatory authority show a 5.5% increase in revenues to 26.1 billion patacas ($3.3 billion) in August 2012 - the second highest ever for Macau casinos, topped only by October 2011's 26.8 billion patacas..

The increase was higher than July's statistics, which at 1.5% recorded the lowest rise since 2009.

Macau revenues soared 42% last year to $33.5 billion, more than five times the amount earned on the beleaguered Las Vegas Strip, but in 2012 Macau's growth has eased in line with a slowdown in the Chinese economy.
