JURISDICTIONAL COLLABORATION THE KEY FOR DANISH REGULATOR

SKAT, the Danish online gambling authority, is interacting with other regulators
SKAT, the recently formed Danish gambling regulator, has wasted no time in developing links with other European regulatory regimes, signing MOUs with Malta, Gibraltar, Alderney, Jersey and the Isle of Man.
The agreements are designed to promote closer and more efficient cooperation between the regulators on issues of common interest, enabling them to share ideas and information on topics like enforcement, player protection and licensing and regulatory procedures.
In cases where Denmark shares licensees with other jurisdictions with which it has signed agreements, the MOU also assists in avoiding needless duplication of licensing requirements, and the convenience of shared responsible gaming projects and even employee exchange programs.
Practically speaking, the MOUs also mean that operators regulated in jurisdictions covered by the MOUs can offer online gambling in Denmark without having to comply with Danish requirements for servers to be based in-country.
SKAT started regulating around 40 licensees in January this year, sharing poker liquidity internationally and avoiding some of the commercial pitfalls that dedicated and highly restrictive licensing regimes like France have created.
