South African branch of gambling company awarded a Western Cape fixed odds betting licence

Intralot South Africa, a subsidiary of the international gambling group bearing the same name, has revealed that it has been awarded a fixed odds betting licence by the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board.

The company will operate under the brand Justbet, and the licence covers sports betting facilities in the area of Western Cape in South Africa, along with Internet, Telephone and Mobile betting for players countrywide.

Dr. Yannis Rondiris, md for the Africa Sub Sahara Region of the Intralot group, said that the company was very pleased to take a step forward in launching both land-based and Interactive fixed odds betting in South Africa. The award is a good fit with the company's strategy to focus on the convergence of retail with Internet and Mobile channels, he said.

Justbet sports betting will mainly embrace football, rugby, cricket, and selected golf events, the most popular sports in South Africa. It will be offered in Western Cape through a network of agents, and to the rest of the country through a dedicated website. The sports betting portfolio will soon be enhanced with horse betting.

The Western Cape province has a population of 5,4 million people and its capital city, Cape Town, a population of 3,5 million people, or approximately 10,5% of the South African population and territory, but generates 14,5 % of the country's GDP...25% higher than the country average. The province is reportedly South Africa's fastest growing province.
