CASINO ROBBERY WAS A BIT OF A DRAG

Little finesse in casino robbery
Showing as little finesse as the motorcycle robber at the Bellagio earlier this year (see previous reports) a gang of four masked and armed men hit a San Diego land casino Wednesday, making off with a display case that contained rather less than they expected.
There was little sophistication in the raid; the four men ran in brandishing handguns, wrapped a chain around a display case ostensibly holding a quarter of a million dollars reserved for a promotion, and then dragged it out of the casino using a sports utility vehicle.
The vehicle was later found abandoned a mile away; along with some of the money, and the robbers now have federal agents on their trail.
"It seemed like a very amateur attempt," Detective Sergeant Tom Poulin said. He revealed that the display case was for a promotion to win $250,000, but the case likely contained $100 bills on top of a stack of $1 bills to make it look like a larger amount of money than it was.
The Reuters news agency reports that after dragging it outside, one of the robbers shot the display case Plexiglas, breaking it open, and the thieves then grabbed an unknown amount of money before fleeing with a roughly 30-foot-long heavy duty steel chain dragging behind their vehicle.
