MALAYSIAN POLICE REPORT ON ILLICIT ONLINE GAMBLING

820 arrested in past nine months
Malaysian state capital Kedah's chief asst commissioner of CID, Zakaria Ahmad has reported on the ongoing crackdown of illegal online gambling activities in the country according to The Star Online.
Ahmad reported that a total of 820 people have been arrested along with the seizure of 4 036 computers in the past nine month period, a substantial increase compared to 724 people and 2388 computers over the whole 2010 period.
We also took action against the operators under the Common Gaming House Act 1953, and the Entertainment and Places of Entertainment Enactment 1997, said Ahmad addressing a press conference this week.
Fifty% of those arrested were repeat offenders and the state police have submitted six names to Malaysian Police headquarters for action under the Restricted Residence Act 1933.
We also submitted a list of 50 premises found to have been used for such activities to Tenaga Nasional Berhad to temporarily cut off the power supply pending investigations.
We are working with local authorities to monitor the state's entertainment centres such as cyber cafes to ensure that they are not being used for online gambling, Ahmad went on to say.
