Turnover could double with the introduction of cash poker and online casino action

Estimates earlier this week that the Italian market could be in for major expansion (see previous report) have been fleshed out by independent research outfit Trust Partners.

A recent study by the company has estimated that the much-anticipated introduction of cash poker online casino games by regulator AAMS this (2011) year has the potential to double Italian revenues before the end of the year, and spur impressive future growth going into 2012.

Trust says that the launch of Internet casnos alone, at present scheduled for the northern hemisphere summer this year, could generate Euro 200 million by end-2011 and another Euro 800 000 to Euro 1 billion in 2012.

However, Stefano Acciavatti of Trust Partners, cautioned that there are signs of stabilisation in the poker market, warning: "Even if game accounts and revenues for poker increased in 2010 with respect to 2009, during the last four to five months of last year there were clear signs of stabilisation.

"Game sessions, tournaments and amount of money spent per each game were down in number and volume compared to the comparable period in 2009."
