Government initiative to create an e-gaming licensing jurisdiction will help boost economy, says minister

The Channel Island of Jersey's economy will benefit from the introduction of online gambling licensing regulations, government minister Alan McLean told the BBC this week.

New regulations to manage a locally based e-gaming industry have been published for States approval, extending the gambling range on the island, which is currently limited mainly to betting offices.

McLean said allowing gambling websites to be hosted and licensed in Jersey would bring millions of pounds into the local economy.

"The intentions are to benefit from the considerable economic advantages of having e-gaming," the minister said. "It was worth about 50 million to the Guernsey economy in 2009, which has increased from 2007 when it was about 7 million."

AZOC Note: A number of the casinos on the online casino list here at AZOC are already licenced in Alderney in the Channel Islands. Alderney has an excellent reputation as one of the strictest jurisdictions and as result is highly regarded among both experienced players and affiliates.
