Sri Lankan government poised to make gambling legal for licenced premises

The government of Sri Lanka is set to pass new laws that will legalise gambling this Wednesday, which is being opposed by the opposition party on the grounds that it will likely increase prostitution. Parliament is pushing through the new legislation which will allow President Mahinda Rajapakse, who is also minister of finance, to grant licences for gambling establishments.
